Setting Up a New iPad for Use with Meraki
This article how to setup an iPad in Meraki. The device must be in Meraki's ADE (Apple's Automated Device Enrollment); if not the Apple Configurator will need to be used.
Items needed: iPad, access to Meraki Systems Manager, an owner account in Meraki, an Asset Tag, and access to FreshService Asset Management
- Start with the iPad turned off.
- Place a J&J Asset Tag on the device.
- In Meraki System Manager, ensure that iPad appears in ADE (Meraki > Systems Manager > Manage > ADE).
- There are three ADE servers: 1. Meraki 2. Meraki 3. TapRoom Meraki. Select the second Meraki server.
- Find and select the device and Assign setting, assign 'J&J Venture' settings and click the Assign button.
- The iPad will not show up in the Devices section of Meraki's System Manager until after the iPad is setup.
- Turn on the iPad and go through the iPad setup.
- The iPad will need to be connect to WiFi
- The iPad setup will prompted for 'Owner' credentials (these may be labeled as 'JJV-Marketing' credentials). The credentials can be found in Secret Server, secret is called: Meraki Owner Account.
- In Meraki Systems Manager, find the iPad in Devices list (Meraki > Systems Manager > Monitor > Devices) on the JJ Ventures network.
- Customize the iPad Details by clicking on the iPads name and selecting Edit details.
- Name: set to a descriptive name. Template: Site Abbr Use - User for example EFF Collector - Jones would be an iPad for an Effingham Collector with the name of Jones.
- Network: if the iPad is managed by Marketing the network should be JJ Ventures, if the iPad is managed by IT the network should be JJV - IT.
- Notes: add the asset tag number.
- Tags: select the tag(s) that will deploy the appropriate apps and security profile.
- After setting up the iPad is setup, if the iPad is missing apps or profiles:
- Profile > Missing > Actions > Install. This will re-deploy the security policies.
- Apps > Missing > Actions > Install. This will re-deploy the apps.
- If the iPad is used by Collectors then work with the install techs to ensure the iPad can connect to establishment networks.
- If the iPad has LTE capabilities work with our account rep to enable (most LTE devices are through Verizon).
- If tags are removed from the iPad, a reboot of the iPad may be needed to remove any unneeded software that was deployed with the old tag(s).
- Enter the device information into FreshService Asset Management.
